1. I recently purchased 29 new iMac C2Ds and then went to Europe for 24 days. When I recently returned, I found two iMacs which won't start up upon pressing the power button. Having seen similar behavior on an iBook, I'm wondering if there is a trick to get the circuit's 5V of standby voltage to actually do something.

I telephoned Apple about this problem. They suggested removing the power cord from the back of the iMacs for 15 seconds. When I did, both iMacs began to power-up. One actually booted while the other just blew its fan. Finally, the one that booted suddenly died after about five seconds at the Desktop. A third Mac had similar behavior. They are now sending me three new iMacs and have restored my faith in Apple. :)

Glad you've got it solved, but 10% DOA is a much higher defect rate than I'd expect from Apple.
