I have a requirement to remotely shut down my Mac Mini (when the machine that's monitoring the UPS decides there's not enough battery left).
Is there any reason why I (or rather, the script) shouldn't ssh to it and issue the appropriate "shutdown" command? Or is there a more Mac-ish way of doing this?
ARD will let you shut down from the Apple menu.
One way street though,

IIRC you were using an APC UPS (or maybe more than one). APC PowerChute does what you want and is available in an OSX version for both Intel and PPC Macs.

It works too - either by USB or ethernet, if your UPS contains a network card, and the hub/switch is also on the ups!
